Saturday 29 September 2018
10.00 am to 1:00 pm
The Katoomba Men’s Shed will open its doors to the public on Saturday 29 September in celebration of Men’s Shed week and to showcase what the Katoomba Shed is all about.
The Shed will be open from 10.00am to 1.00pm and is located at 6 Orient Street Katoomba.
The Men’s Shed organisation has been around in Australia for about 20 years and the Katoomba Shed for 12 years.
The Shed President, Peter Kinkead, said that “the Men’s Shed organisation was all about promoting the health and wellbeing of men and provides an opportunity for men to share time together, swap yarns or work together on community or personal projects. We are particularly aware of the social isolation and the boredom that often leads to depression when men’s commitments are changed due to life’s circumstances.”
“The Shed can provide for a range of activities from computers, a cuppa and a chat, a game of cards or fine tune a hobby in the workshop.”
Opening hours are normally from Tuesday to Friday and the Open Day will give the Shed the opportunity to find out if there is a need to open on the weekends which would allow for participation by men who have weekday commitments.
“We would welcome men in this situation to come along on the Open Day and talk about what would suite them best” Mr Kinkead said.
