Welcome

This web site is currently under reconstruction

The Katoomba Men’s Shed has been set up to be a place for men of all ages and backgrounds to meet, to share skills, knowledge, life-experiences, and work together on practical projects for the whole community.

Building a deck at Katoomba Men's Shed

The Shed’s DA has now been approved, we are officially open. The disabled access path (which required about 50 tonnes of fill to be brought in,  formed into shape, rotary hoed and compacted, all of which required much physical labour from the Shed Members)  from the back of the Shed to the Katoomba Showground car park is now complete and other aspects  such as  fire safety requirements have been approved.

At present,  we are  now open Mondays (10.00am to 2.00pm), Tuesdays,  Wednesdays and Thursdays (8.30 am till 3.00 pm).

By arrangement with TAFE we will be running courses in Small Motor Maintenance, Chainsaws, Metalwork and Welding.  We also offer various computer-based and woodturning courses.

There is still finishing work to be done, so if  you have construction, plumbing, electrical, cabinet making or organisation skills, or you can wield a broom or hammer, please join us on one of our work days.

Because the Shed is self-funding (requires about $5000 to $7000 per year to keep open),  a daily levy of $4-00 will apply.

The annual subs are $30 (starting Jan 1, 2012) with an additional once-only joining fee of $5

For further information please email us at: kms@exemail.com.au or phone the shed on 4782-7433 (4783-SHED). If the phone is unattended please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as they can.

We are an official kiosk for the Federal Government  ‘Broadband for Seniors’ program.  This program is designed to help Seniors (and others) to become computer aware and to use basic facilities such as email and simple word processing. The courses are well planned, documented,  self-paced and can be continued on a home computer if desired. There is no fee for these courses. We need more tutors to help with these courses. If you have the time and good computer skills then please email us at: katoombamensshed@gmail.com or phone the shed on 4782-7433 (4782-SHED).  Any help would be very welcome.

We are also getting a Computer Club under way designed for people who would like to know more about computers and various software packages.

It is anticipated that this Computer Club will be held on a day  Mondays, but the Computers will be available on all days.

Participants will be encouraged to bring in their own laptops as we now have wireless broadband facilities (ADSL 2). Instructors to help in coordinating this Club would be very welcome.
